the magic golden bird
Once apona time there was a bird who live in a lake. But one day a flood of gold was coming to the bird. Suddenly a wing struck the gold flood that wing fall of the bird.
Then little bird touch the wing of the golden eagle suddenly he turned golden. If he would poo it will be gold the bird who was gold realize that he can blow fire out of it's mouth. One day a mighty warrior came to challege the golden eagle.
but that mighty warrior was defeated . So all of the best warrior warior contuine to battle the golden eagle

Room 17 and kidneys.
On Monday the 12 of March, 2012, Room 17 of Saint Francis Xavier (S.F.X for short) had a visitor named Tracey. Tracey taught about kidneys, so kids knew what they are and what they do.
Tracey begun by showing room 17 the slideshow she had on her computer, by digital projector.
It was basically the whole lesson: starting with the beginning. That was a simple start.
The procedures were the start, simple right? In a way, showing 2 of the procedures: the painful adult one, and the simple kid one. (Just DONT, at ALL, touch the tip on the kid one.) True fact: some adults still use the kid procedures.
Then Tracey showed what the kidneys are, by word, saying that they are in your back, and look like sausages in a way. Then she explained that they clean your blood, and people are usually born with 2, perfectly fine kidneys, but some are only born with 1 kidney.

Tracey told room 16 & 17 about Dialysis, dialysis is when someone with a kidney problem has to use this machine that helps the kidney to clean the blood. some people have to stay on the machine for 5 hours, and 3x a week.
Tracey showed room 16 & 17 the cause of kidney disease, the cause of it is smoking, sugar, salt and a lot more stuff.

Learning about Kidneys.
On Monday the 12th of March a lady called Tracey came into room 17 to talk to room 17 and 16 about kidneys.
Did you know that people can live a perfictually normal life with just one Kidney. How? The blood goes through your Kidneys and gets cleaned so all the blood can just travel through one Kidney to get cleaned, because you only need one Kidney really.
Room 17 and 16 learned so much about Kidneys. Tracey was very kind to teach us so much about Kidneys.
Tracey started off by asking the class what kidneys were. Lauren put her hand up and said " kidneys are a part in your body that clean your blood." Well done said Tracey.Now who can tell me what are the most healthy things you can eat to keep your kidneys healthy? Vegetables, fruit and water the class replied..How can your damage your kidneys? By smoking and eating tons of salt and sugar.

Waitangi trip
Yesterday on the 14 of March 2012 the seiner sindicite went on a field- trip to Waitangi to learn about the treaty of Waitangi
The first thing our school needed was transportation. The school and the people who worked together to organise some bus's to drive us to Waitangi. It took us a hour and 11 minutes to get there. When we got out of the bus we put first our step onto the ground(well some of us did). After that we got into three groups so we didn't get lost. After that We were ready for the tour

The Importance of a Kidney!!
One early morning, a lady came into room 17. Her name is Tracy, and also room 16 came. Tracy was from the hospital, so we were excited about what she was going to be talking to us about.
Tracy was telling the students all about kidneys. Tracy said that kidneys clean your blood, just like a washing machine. Every one minute, the blood goes through your kidneys. Tracy showed the students some photos on her slide show. The students saw a lady in hospital with tubes going through her arm. That machine is called a Dialysis. The Dialysis is a machine that keeps your kidneys going. Some people have to stay on a Dialysis for 5 hours, three times a day.
Next Tracy told the students that some people are mostly born with two kidneys, but some only have one. Some people donate kidneys to the people who have kidneys that are not working, so some people will have three and leave the bad one in their body.
Last but not least, Tracy showed us a lamb kidney and an ox kidney. The students were amazed of how big the ox kidney compared to the lambs. Then she showed us how much sugar is in healthy fruit drinks.

At Saint Francis Xavier school in Room 17 they have been collecting can tabs for kidney kids.
On Monday a lady came in to speak to room seventeen and sixteen and they gathered together to listen to this lady, her name was Tracey.
Tracey taught them about kidneys.
Tracey gave them heaps of information about kidney kids.
Tracey showed them an ox's kidneys, it was huge.!!
Most people are born with two kidneys but some people are born with one kidney!!
Somking and fizzy drinks and V can destroy kidneys.
V is full of alot of sugar, there are 45 calories of sugar in the V.!!

Mrs Babara Brown was dressed like Mrs Busby. Mrs Busby greeted every one and spoke in Maori.
Mrs Busby showed us the back bedroom where Sarah Busby used to sleep.
The meeting house is called Whare Runanga.
There are Maori carvings inside the meeting house.
Tere was a very long Maori canoe called a waka at Ho

Trip to Waitangi
When we got to Waitangi we got welcomed in with a powhiri.
The first thing we went to was a little village that they had made.It had a whare moa a fish hanger and a kumara pit.
The next thing we saw was a waka it s name is Ngatokimatawharua it is the largest waka in the world.It was 35 metres long and can fit 120 people and is weighed 6 tonne .
We went up and saw the flag pole and i saw a flag i had never seen before.When we went to sit on the tree beside it a lady called Jojo told us all about it it was the New Zealand flag for five years before the treaty.
Then she told us about the first european to come to New Zealand his name was Able Tasman. The maori blew a horn at him and Able Tasman blew a trumpet back which means bring it on and he got scared and went home and told no body to go back.A man called Captain Cook came many years later and he took a step on Aotearoa.

The school went on buses to Waitangi, the trip was long. When the school got to Waitangi, the school got excited, and when school got out of the busses, they had to line up and take a walk through a track in the bush, to get to the powhiri.
When the school had lined up for the powhiri. It took a while for the powhiri to end. Next the 1st group split up into 3 groups. 1 grope had morning tea, the 2nd group went to see a big waka. After the groups rotated around the different places they went to see the Treaty House. It had lots of cool stuff in it like a musket, a copy of the treaty and lots more.

The Kidney Kids
Yesterday Tracy from Kidney Kids came to tell Rooms 16 and 17 about Kidneys diseases.
Kidneys here are a couple of facts.''you can get kidney diseases by eating to much sugar and salt and by not drinking enough water''.''Some people are only born with one kidney but most people are born with two kidneys.
Tracy ended off the lesson by giving us these kidney activity books with little comics about first aid.

Waitangi
On Wednesday the 14th of March lots of classes from St Francis Xavier School went on an outstanding trip to Waitangi!
The school was welcomed onto the treaty grounds with a powhiri, at Hobson Beach.
Hobson beach was next to a small Maori village where Maori used to fish, sleep and cook.
A lady called Barbra Brown showed us around the Maori village and told us what the Maori used to do there.
Mrs.Busby(Barbra brown dressed up) told us how the pakhea got muskets and shot the Maori.The Maori ran into Mrs.Busby's house,there chief quikley grabbed Sarah (Mrs Busby's child)and hide her in the corner of the room under his cloak.
Able Tasman,(a man from Holland) got in his bout one day and saw New Zealand.The Maori blew in a sea shell and Able blew in a trumpet. (saying bring it on)Able's men were already rowing to shore , the Maori started killing Ables men and Able rowed back to Holland and told everyone that they were savages and not to go there ever again.
